Especially in a year when the Olympic Games are organised this will be a nice webquest for students of all ages.

The focus of this research is on differences and similarities between the ancient and modern olympic games.

Topics for resarch are for example:

1. the events in the ancient and modern games
2. the prizes in the ancient and modern games
3. the participants in the ancient and modern games
4. the differences in clothing between the ancient and the modern games
5. the situation in times of war
6. the rituals in ancient and modern games
7. the locations of the games
8. the reception of the medalists
9. Amateurs or professionals

Perhaps the students will find more topics.

In this assignment students will work in small groups of, say, three or four students who will research all topics. The results may be presented as an oral presentation, a power-pointpresentation, a website or a poster.

It is also possible to make it a class assignment, in which small groups of two or three students will research only one topic. The might present the results to the class.

Of course it is possible to give the the assignment to individual students, but then the time investnment will be much larger.
