Pasphae
Pasiphae Solis filia uxor Minois sacra deae Veneris per aliquot annos non
fecerat. Ob id Venus amorem infandum illi obiecit, ut taurum quem ipsa amabat
alia amaret. 2. In hoc Daedalus exsul cum venisset, petiit ab eo auxilium. Is ei
vaccam ligneam fecit et verae vaccae corium induxit, in qua illa cum tauro
concubuit; ex quo compressu Minotaurum peperit capite bubulo parte inferiore
humana. 3. Tunc Daedalus Minotauro labyrinthum inextricabili exitu fecit, in quo
est conclusus. 4. Minos re cognita Daedalum in custodiam coniecit, at Pasiphae
eum vinculis liberavit; itaque Daedalus pennas sibi et Icaro filio suo fecit et
accommodavit et inde avolarunt. Icarus altius volans a sole cera calefacta
decidit in mare, quod ex eo Icarium pelagus est appellatum. Daedalus pervolavit
ad regem Cocalum in insulam Siciliam. 5. Alii dicunt: Theseus cum Minotaurum
occidit, Daedalum Athenas in patriam suam reduxit.
Pasiphae
Pasiphae,
de dochter van Sol1 en echtgenote van Minos2 , had al
enkele jaren geen offers gebracht aan de godin Venus. Daarom trof Venus haar met
een verschrikkelijke liefde. Zij zorgde er namelijk voor dat Pasiphae van een
stier ging houden [met een liefde die niet beantwoord werd ??]. Pasiphae vroeg
hulp aan Daedalus3 , die in die tijd als balling naar Kreta was
gekomen. Hij maakte een houten koe voor haar en daaroverheen trok hij de huid
van een echte koe. Pasiphae ging in deze koe met de stier naar bed. Hierdoor
werd Pasiphae zwanger en ze bracht de Minotaurus ter wereld. De Minotaurus had
het hoofd van een rund en het onderste gedeelte van zijn lichaam was menselijk.
Daarna maakte Daedalus voor de Minotaurus een labyrint met een onvindbare
uitgang. De Minotaurus werd in dit labyrint opgesloten. Nadat Minos dit vernomen
had, zorgde hij ervoor dat Daedalus gevangen genomen werd. Pasiphae wist
Daedalus echter te bevrijden uit de gevangenis. Daarom maakte Daedalus vleugels
voor zichzelf en zijn zoon Icarus en trok ze aan. Zo vlogen ze daarvandaan weg.
Omdat Icarus te hoog vloog, werd de was zo door de zon verwarmd, dat deze smolt
en Icarus in zee stortte. Naar hem heet deze zee de Icarische Zee. Daedalus
vloog zonder zijn zoon verder naar koning Cocalus op het eiland Sicilië. Een
andere versie van dit verhaal, is dat Theseus, nadat hij de Minotaurus gedood
had, Daedalus naar zijn geboorteplaats Athene heeft teruggebracht.

architect. Daedalus neefje Talus was slimmer dan zijn eigen zoon. Toen Talus
onder verdachte omstandigheden was omgekomen, is Daedalus in ballingschap
gegaan, omdat hij van moord werd verdacht.
Pasiphae
Pasiphae, daughter of the Sun, wife of Minos, had not performed sacred rites to
Venus for some years. Consequently, Venus inflicted her with an
unspeakable lust for to love a bull other than the way she did love it.
2. At the time Daedalus as an exile, he asked her for help. He built a
wooden cow and dressed it with the hide of a real cow. In this, she slept
with the bull. From the union she gave birth to the Minotaur, with a
bull's head and otherwise human body. 3. Then Daedalus made the Labyrinth
for the Minotaur, with no discernible way out, and he was closed up in it.
4. When the affair was discovered, Minos arrested Daedalus. But
Pasiphae freed him from his chains. And so Daedalus made and modified
wings for himself and his son Icarus, and
they flew away. Icarus, because he flew too high, when the wax was melted
by the son, fell into the sea which is called the Icarian deep for him.
Daedalus flew on to king Cocalus on the island of Sicily. 5. Others say
that, when Theseus killed the Minotaur, he brought Daedalus back to Athens, his
native land.
